2015 MONTROSE TRIATHLON CONFIRMED

11 Dec 2014:  Following the success of the 2014 Montrose Triathlon, Tri Angus Limited is delighted to confirm that the 2015 Montrose Triathlon will take place on Sunday, 31 May 2015.

Feedback from the 2014 event was hugely encouraging and with the number of participants taking part in their first triathlon so high (over 55%) that the Tri Angus team felt there was no going back. On a sunny day in Montrose huge numbers of people caught the triathlon bug and are already looking forward to the 2015 event.

The 2014 event was a sell-out with 180 participants registering long before the closing date, something the organisers were blown away by in its inaugural year.  As a result 2015’s event will have an increased capacity of 210 places.

The event will again be based at the superbly equipped Montrose Sports Centre.  As with the 2014 event participants will have the option of taking part in either the novice or sprint distances.  The novice event is ideal for those new to triathlon while the sprint distance is for those with a little more experience or who are a little more daring!  Full details of the routes will be available in January when the event will open for entries.

Maggie Lawrie, Tri Angus Director, commented “We are delighted to announce the date for the 2015 Montrose Triathlon.  Last year’s event was hugely successful on so many levels, we really have been blown away.

“The 2014 event not only gave the people of Angus the opportunity to try something new, to which they responded very well, it also brought a lot of people to the area from all over Scotland.

“We were delighted and very grateful to the support we received from local businesses, as well as the 40 plus volunteers, without both of which the event could not run.  Seventeen local businesses supported the event either through cash sponsorship or services in kind and this support really helped make the event.

“Finally, being a social enterprise, one of our aims is to support the triathlon community in Angus.  Following on from the 2014 event, a brand new triathlon club has been formed – Montrose Triathlon Club.  We have been delighted to be able to help achieve this.  The club is going very well and, despite only being formed in October, has already identified four budding coaches to go through the first stage of their coaching qualifications.  This development means that Angus residents now have an active triathlon support network all year round”.
