28 Dec 2015:  Following the success of the 2015 Montrose Triathlon, Tri Angus Limited is delighted to confirm that the 2016 Montrose Triathlon will take place on Sunday, 5 June 2016.  Entries for the event will open on Friday, 22 January 2016.

Feedback from the 2015 event was very positive and Tri Angus is delighted to be in a position to run another event in 2016.  The event, which will now be in its 3rd year, continues to attract a real mix of abilities from complete beginner (47% of 2015’s participants were taking part in their very first triathlon) to seasoned triathlete.

The 2015 event was a sell-out with 210 participants registering within 4.5 weeks of entries opening, plus a further 65 put their name on a waiting list – something the organisers were blown away by in only its second year.  As a result Tri Angus is looking to increase the capacity for 2016’s event.

The event will again be based at the superbly equipped Montrose Sports Centre.  As with the 2014 and 2015 events participants will have the option of taking part in either the novice or sprint distances.  The novice event is ideal for those new to triathlon while the sprint distance is for those with a little more experience or who are a little more daring!  Full details of the routes and the distances involved in the swim, bike and run are available on the Tri Angus website (www.triangus.co.uk).

Entries are expected to fill up quickly so anyone who would like to take part is encouraged to sign up early to avoid disappointment.

Maggie Lawrie, Tri Angus Director, commented “We are delighted to announce the date for the 2016 Montrose Triathlon.  Last year’s event was hugely successful on so many levels, we really have been blown away again.

“The 2015 event not only gave the people of Angus the opportunity to challenge themselves by doing something a bit different, to which they responded very well, it also brought a lot of people to the area from all over Scotland and a few from England.

“We were delighted and very grateful to the support we received from local businesses, as well as the 50 plus volunteers, without both of which the event could not run.  We are keen to speak to anyone who would be interested in supporting the event again and they can get in touch with me via info@triangus.co.uk.

“Finally, being a social enterprise, one of our aims is to support the triathlon community in Angus.  Following on from the 2015 event, Tri Angus has been in a position to further support Montrose Triathlon Club.  The Club, which was established in October 2014, has grown to over 60 members, now has 6 qualified coaches which were part funded by us, and were shortlisted for Triathlon Scotland’s Club of the Year award in November 2015.  This is really a phenomenal achievement and shows what a great organisation it is with forward thinking members”.
