30 Jan 2015:  Tri Angus Limited are delighted to confirm that entries are now open for the 2015 Montrose Triathlon.  The triathlon, which is in its second year, will take place on Sunday, 31 May 2015, and will again be based at the superbly equipped Montrose Sport Centre.

The event, which comprises of a swim, bike and run, is open to all levels of triathlete form the complete beginner to seasoned pro.  The novice distance is ideal for those new to the sport while the sprint distance is designed for those with a little more experience or who are a little more daring!

Participants take to the pool for the first leg of the triathlon and swim either 16 or 30 lengths of Montrose Sports Centre’s 25m pool.  This is followed by either a 12km or 20km cycle which takes in some of the best view’s Angus has to offer.  Finally the 5km run allows participants to breathe in some fresh sea air as the route negotiates its way round the beachfront before returning back to the sports centre.

The 2014 event was a sell-out with 180 participants registering long before the closing date, something the organisers were blown away by in its inaugural year.  As a result 2015’s event has an increased capacity of 210 places.

Maggie Lawire, Tri Angus Director, commented “Following the success of our event last year we are really excited to open entries for the 2015 triathlon.  The level of interest we have had to date has been exceptional, especially as it’s only our second year.  We hope we can build on last year’s event and really cement it in the local event calendar.

“Last year over 55% of participants took part in a triathlon for the first time, a figure we are very proud of as we were aiming to create an event where people could try a new sport.  We had a great atmosphere at the 2014 event.  Everyone was so friendly and supportive of each other we really couldn’t have asked for more”.
